Your First Visit

At your hour-long new patient exam, you’ll receive a thorough dental cleaning and a comprehensive exam. (Many patients tell us that our exams are the most thorough they’ve ever received!) Dr. Kalarickal will evaluate key aspects of your smile to determine your current level of oral health. He’ll take the time to get to know you and truly understand your concerns and goals.

During your exam*, the doctor will:

Review your medical and dental history
Discuss the reasons for your visit, your concerns, and your oral health goals
Perform an oral cancer screening with ViziLite technology
Conduct a tooth-by-tooth check for decay with our non-invasive DIAGNOdent laser
Assess the integrity of existing dental work
Check for signs of gum disease and evaluate the quality and condition of your gum tissue
Evaluate your TMJ joints and jaw muscles
Determine how well your top and bottom teeth fit together (occlusion)
Take a full-set of digital X-rays, if applicable
Take Panorex X-rays, if applicable
Create diagnostic study casts of your mouth, if applicable
Use intraoral and digital cameras to take pictures of your smile

The doctor will study the information gathered during your exam, as well as any X-rays and/or diagnostic casts, to determine your optimal treatments options. At your follow-up appointment, Dr. Kalarickal will present his findings, go over your options in detail, and work with you to select the treatments that you feel best meet your needs, budget, and long-term goals.
